A website designer is a website designer

There are various different types of "website designers". There are those who build websites from scratch. Then you have the web designer who can build them from scratch, and twist and turn the sites around to make them look how you want them. Lastly, you have the guy who buys a template or uses Wordpress and can't even be bothered to make it unique for your business, because they don't know how to, or they don't care enough to try, and they have the gall to call themselves a web designer.

We don't like Wordpress

We are not going to lie - we don't use Content Management Systems for many of our client sites at all. In actual fact, most of our customer websites are built, managed and maintained directly by us.

Go on any big business websites and you will notice one important thing - they tend to stay well clear of any Content Management Systems that you can get for nothing.

The reason why is that "real websites" don't use these types of free software, because they have had the sensibility to employ actual web designers to build, customise and maintain their dominance in the web search market.

Business Checklist

Have you already got a business?
If you already have your own business, what so far have you done to make it work? It may be that you work damn hard and you have a website or advertising program that simply is not cutting the mustard. You don't need to invest thousands of pounds into your advertising or a website, but you do need someone that understands how websites work, and how to get the best from them. When you consider there are millions of websites, you need your website to show up somewhere - preferably near the top of the search engines.
Are you just thinking of starting up a business?
I've run my own business for 30 years plus now, and let me tell you, there are advantages and disadvantages to running your own business. Running your own business (or starting one) demands that you willing to work hard.
If you have a business, how dedicated are you to it?
If you're not prepared to put in long days every week, then really why should we? It's your business, but if you are thinking "build it and they will come" then you are sadly mistaken. You need to discipline yourself, and be prepared to work hard (well at least in the early years) of your business venture.
Do you want to succeed or would you prefer to do as little as possible?
If you wish to do as little as possible, then maybe consider the unemployment business where you can sit down and wait for a hand out. In your own business you need to be prepared to screw over your own mother to get somewhere (of course that is a joke), but you get the point!
