A staggering 61% of the UK population use smartphones and iphones to access the internet (based on figures taken from Ofcom). This means nowadays the need to build websites that look great across multiple devices is greater than ever.
On local radio and TV, across the internet, more and more we are seeing the need for responsive websites. If you think about it, how often do you see people walking by, or sitting down with a large PC base unit and a monitor attached to them? Even laptops for that matter? More people are using Ipads, smartphones and tablets out of home, and even if they are at home.
The most compelling reason why we should be moving to responsive websites is Google. It is the most widely used search engine in the world, and just recently Google announced that mobile friendliness will be a ranking criteria for websites featured on Google. The giants search engine algorithms have been in a state of constant change over the last 5 years or so.
And just in April 2015, Google announced that they will favour mobile friendly websites, using a real time, page by page basis to determine what is mobile friendly. Websites that are not responsive, or mobile friendly, will suffer negative SEO and decreased search rankings. In other words, your OLD WEBSITE may not even be found in search results further down the road.
